So after browsing around Phat lewts’ Gold Blog, I saw that he does a wonderful chart on how much gold he has every week. I personally love this idea, and if you want to check out how he does it, you can view his gold total and his Weekly Lewt Review. I said I loved his idea, but I decided I was going to do it a bit different. I have started tracking all of my income and investments for the entire month, and I am going to release a monthly report fully detailing all of my earnings and spending. I will make a post for it each month after I get in all my totals. This will be a huge challenge, so it will probably be the first or second week of each month as this one is. If you want to track the rankings for each month so far, you can check out my Monthly Income Page.
For January I have spent a large sum of gold on preparing for 5.2 as I predict the items I am investing in have huge potential returns with minimal risk involved, and I will be constantly investing until the patch releases. At the point where I move all my back stock following 5.2, I will release a special report on my total patch earnings to accompany my Patch Day Profits Guide. Forgive the amount of approximations, my plans for monitoring were not set from the beginning of the month, instead were begun around the 9th, so i have taken my data from profits and known variables to approximate more realistic investment numbers.
5.2 Investments: (current market value):
- 107 Living Steel Bars – 37,450
- 1960 Spirit Dust – 4,900
- 420 Ethereal Shards – 21,000
- 280 Mysterious Essence – 4,200
- 140 of each rare gem color – 25,200
- 20 Sha Crystals – 8,000
- 500 Ghost Iron Bars – 2,000
- 100 Trillium Bars – 4,000
Right now, I am pretty comfortable with the amount I have invested, so I don’t expect the stockpile to increase much in February. All of the estimations are based on my buying threshold and thus do not directly represent the initial investments made.

Totals:
Expenses: - 192,168
Profits: + 132,236
Net: - 59,932
So, in January I lost 59,932 gold, but that’s not bad considering I am in possession of 106,550g in projected profitable investments. If we account for this, my total monthly net would actually be +46,618g. I am not really into many markets these days, primarily just the profession markets. However, In February, you can expect much more exact figures and a wider variety of investments and sales. I hope you guys enjoyed this little sneak peak at how I make gold, and I challenge you to keep better track of your finances as well.
Challenge Accepted!!!! I’ve been meaning to do this as well, but with getting a really late start in this expansion, all of my time has been invested in daily grinds, LFR’s and alt levelling. I have my main at 90 right now and will possibly have my JC/Engineer and BS/Scribe at 90 by the time 5.2 hits. Tracking this will probably help me get back on top of my AH game. Also, I’d like to point out that you and I posted BSing articles on the same day, I think it was a nice coincidence
I actually stopped by your site and noticed the same thing lol
Mine had a scheduling issue and went out too early. But yeah, make sure to track it well, I fumbled on the start of mine, but I hope to improve on it from here. Good Luck with yours, phat was very helpful with mine!
Can you explain your ‘market control’ figure of 17k? Thanks.
Ok, so basically we all know that there is almost always competition in any given market right. Well on occasion I will buy out a competitors stock just to move my own easier. This also accounts for times when I was clearing a market. So say ethereal shards are down to 43g each, well I will buy all shards up to 65g ea and sell. Overall most of the ones I bought will net me a slight loss, but the ability to sell my large stock and still move what I bought is worth more gold in the long run.
